James Jeffrey Hinkeldey of Scottsale, AZ is serving 30 years in prison for an $18 million real estate investment fraud scheme. The Ninth Circuit US District Court upheld the 2018 sentence Friday, April 24.
Hinkeldey, 66, defrauded 225 victims of at least $18 million and was convicted of conspiracy, wire and mail fraud, money laundering and aggravated identity-theft charges. Some of the fraudulent investments included land development in Mexico, recycling companies in Las Vegas and Chicago, and real estate in Phoenix.
As well, Hinkeldey’s partner, Jason Mogler of Phoenix, received a prison sentence of 24 years and four months.
