On this day

“On this day in 325 a.d. was opened the Ecumenical Council of Nicea in Nicea near Constantinople.  At issue was the nature of the Trinity & Christ.  Even if you are not a Christian, the outcome of that council has  exercised a vast influence over you.  The ancient philosophical question of which is ultimate, the one or the many, the individual or society, can only be reconciled in the Trinity of three Persons in One God. The implications of the Trinity have been worked out in Western Civilization ever since, and to it may be traced directly the justification for individual human dignity, freedom, & free society.  Tie onto that the Western concept of love of all kinds, especially between man & woman.  Only in the Trinity is true diversity valued, and enabled by unity-in-diversity.  Oddest thing about this is how little Christians emphasize it today, especially Protestants, after it has been the confessed central doctrine of Christianity for 17 centuries.” — Franklin Sanders www.the-moneychanger.com
